For Monday:

Produce a 12-Panel Storyboard, where the story within can be completed within ONE MINUTE.
Your subject is DEALER'S CHOICE in subject and Genre.
You must KNOW your story's GENRE!

  • Bring in one story (LIVE ACTION or ANIMATION) of the SAME genre with TYPED notes on the following:
  • Shot Rhythm
  • Color Palettes
  • Character and Environment Design. (including costume and prop design)
Your Storyboard will also have the following supplemental content:
  • Character Design Model Sheets
    • 5 Views: Front, 3/4 Front, Side, 3/Q Back, Back
  • Environment Design Model Sheets!
    • One large black and white drawing on each page.
    • Every environment design must include one BLOCKING reference.
      • Blocking references work like blueprints, showing where characters, environments, and cameras are located.
As part of your research, I have included on the server a PDF copy of the MOUSEWORKS MODEL PACK, a collection of designs from Disney cartoons of old!

Maximum character count is 3 characters, Maximum environment count is 2 environments.

MIDTERMS CHECKLIST!

I.  On the Server, in the "MIDTERMS" folder, turn in final videos for the following assignments by 11:59 PM, THURSDAY, MARCH 10th, 2016:

1. The ball bounce project.
2. The shape emotion project.
3. The research assignment.
4. Your Walk Cycle Project.
  1. Scans of Your Observational Drawing Assignments! You should have the following:
    1. 30 Drawings of people. (your initial 20, and 10 drawings done in the opposite context. If you did realism, work abstract, and vice versa.)
    2. 5-10 environment drawings!
    3. 5 quality animal sketches are extra credit!
  2. Your Character Performance Project with cleaned up key drawings and breakdown drawings!

For the sake of midterms, all projects should be black and white. If you have colored any of your assignments, I will be grading the quality of your line-work over the quality of your colored images.

I will grade based on the following: (each standard is 20% of each assignment)

A. Craftsmanship: Line-art quality.  Are your lines clean? Is your character the focal point of your animation, or are the rough lines the focal point?
B. Modeling: How consistent is your character between every frame of your animation?  Do limbs get too thin and then too thick?
C. Performance: Are we captivated by the actions on screen?  Is your animation about the character? Are the performances believable and relatable if we look at your animation as an actor and as the audience?
D. Clarity of storytelling:  What is the story of each animation?  Is the story coming across?
E. Technique:  Are you demonstrating the principles we've learned in class?
Arcs - The way we add weight to how your character moves.
Easing - speeding up and slowing down of actions over time.
Staging and Positioning - (spacing)
Pacing - (Timing)
Anticipation
Performance

PLEASE BE ADVISED I WILL DOCK FROM YOUR GRADE IF YOUR CONTENT IS NOT TURNED IN AS LABELED, READY TO SHOW!
